Giandomenico Basso leads the way into TER Round 3 at Madeira

The BRC Racing Team Hyundai driver is ready for the next challenge.

 

1) With second place in Ypres you have maintained the leadership in the Tour European Rally. How is the apprenticeship with the BRC Racing Team Hyundai New Generation i20 R5 progressing?

In Ypres we were fast in the first two stages, then a series of drawbacks brought us far away from the leadership. At that point we tried to give priority to the championship. We are nevertheless happy to have maintained the leadership. For Madeira we did not do a full test, just a short session to check the car. We will try, together with BRC, to build on our past experiences.

 

2) You hold the record number of wins in Madeira, joint with Andrea Aghini and Bruno Magalhaes. What do you remember about your past participations? And what is the secret to be fast in such a special race?

I remember thrilling challenges, a warm audience and an excellent organisation. The stages are very technical and rallying there is really exciting. It's essential to have an agile car and to push right from the start because the rhythm is very high

 

3) How do you rate the atmosphere in the Tour European Rally, and the relationship with your rivals? In Madeira, for example, Simone Tempestini will return after being unlucky in the opening round at Transilvania Rally.

The TER is proving to be a great choice, we are delighted to be able to participate in it. I usually have a good relationship with the other drivers. I have always liked to rally abroad. I am glad to have Simone back, I have a good feeling with him.
