40th Rallye Sierra Morena technical roads the first season’s tarmac test

 

Round 2 of the 2023 TER Series is ready to start. Based in Còrdoba, the only city with four UNESCO World Heritage sites, 40th Rallye Internacional Sierra Morena - Córdoba Patrimonio de la Humanidad - Trofeo Andalucía Región Europea del Deporte unfolds over two days of sporting challenges over the technical tarmac stages on the Sierra Morena hills.

 

Many strong crews will be part of this great event. Pablo Díez, driving a Škoda Fabia R5, will be codriven for the first time by Maria Esther Gutiérrez.

 

Hyundai Motor España fields 3 crews on Hyundai I20 N Rally2: multiple Spanish champion Pepe López, partnered by Borja Rozada, will chase a hat trick of victories in the event12th start in Rallye Sierra Morena for Surhayen Pernía, with Alba Sánchez, 2021 TER – Tour European Rally winner Iván Ares will race with José Antonio Pintor, while Francisco López and Borja Odriozola return to Córdoba after two years.

 

Amongst the welcome returns in TER Series, the 2021 TER – Tour European Rally bronze medal crew of José Antonio Suárez and Alberto Iglesias and 2019 Tour European Rally runners-up, Germany’s Stefan Göttig, codriven by Natalie Solbach-Schmidt. Both crews will compete on Škoda Fabias Rally2.

Two more local crews are using Hyundai i20 cars: Jose Luis Pelaez, codriven by Alberto Chamorro, and Pedro Sanchez, with Alejandro Leseduarte at the pacenotes.

 

Various crews will fight in the TER Junior, for drivers under 26. With a trio of Peugeot 208 Rally4, Santiago Garcìa - Néstor Casal and Mario Borbolla - Diego Cruz, both tackling their maiden season event, will challenge Sergi Perez, codriven by Lorena Romero, who already took an overall victory in 2023 Rally Automòvil Club de Zaragoza. The fourth TER Junior crew, Alberto Perez - Andrea Fidalgo, will use a Renault Clio Rally5.

 

In the TER 2WD category, the Italian crew of Dino Caragliu and Mauro Atzei, in a Renault Clio Rally4, will be up against the sister car of Javier and Marta Galan. Juan Carlos Fernandez codriven by Esther De La Torre and Jose Javier Perez with Alberto Espino the latter using a Rally5-spec version. Oscar Gil and Carlos Chamorro will driver the technical Rallye Sierra Morena stages with an Opel Adam R2.
