9-time World Champion secures maiden win in Ponta Delgada ahead of team mate Mikkelsen and Solans

 

In a great masterclass, at his first outing on the iconic gravel stages of the São Miguel island, 9-time World Champion Sébastien Loeb, partnered by Laurène Godey, quickly got to grips with the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 he was using for the first time. Leading after the opening day, with four stage wins out of five tests, the Frenchman controlled the gap over his opponents to clinch a maiden victory at the finish in Ponta Delgada.

 

Silver went to his one-off team mates, Andreas Mikkelsen and Torstein Eriksen. Taking six consecutive stage wins starting from Friday's final test, the Norwegians had to settle for second after hitting a bank on the penultimate stage.

 

The Škoda Fabia EVO II of Nil Solans, codriven by Marc Marti, who made up the time lost on the opening day, clinching the final podium step in the penultimate stage.
