Mixed fortunes in TER Historic Round 2 at Rallye Antibes Côte d'Azur

20.05.2023

Gabriele Rossi wins, Tim Metcalfe and Philip Giordanengo stopped by mechanical issues

The 3rd round of the 2023 TER Historic was staged on the great stages of Rallye Antibes, on the French Riviera. Two days of sporting action, in changing weather conditions making tyre choice a gamble.

It all paid off well for series newcomer Gabriele Rossi codriven by Fabrizio Handel. The winners of 2022 Rally Terra Sarda Storico got their season off to a perfect start, securing a maiden TER Historic J1/J2 category win.

Driving a Ford Escort RS MkII, 2021 TER Historic Pre81 Champions Philip Giordanengo and Josh Reichnecker had started well by taking the lead of the Pre81 category, before retiring in the opening day's final service with a mechanical problem.

On a sister car, 2-time TER Historic Pre81 Champion and TER Historic Ambassador Tim Metcalfe, codriven by John Connor, also ran out of luck. After a puncture on the opening day, the British crew winner of the Pre81 Category in Rally Terra Valle del Tevere failed to reach the finish after a mechanical failure mid-way through the second leg.
