The World Series of TER Welcomes South Africa to the Calendar.

Following its role as a TER Candidate Event in 2025, the Algoa Rally in South Africa will join the 2026 TER Series, the World Series of TER, calendar.

The Algoa Rally takes place in the Gqeberha area, formerly known as Port Elizabeth, a major seaport and the most populous city in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province.

The event boasts a rich history as part of the South African National Rally Championship since 1983, with Sarel van der Merwe and Franz Boshoff taking the inaugural win in an Audi Quattro S1.

In 2025, the Algoa Rally served as a TER Candidate Event, where TER staff attended and provided positive feedback on the rally and location, enabling the promoter, to include Algoa Rally, led by Chairman Oliver de Man and his key deputy Rikus Fourie, in the 2026 calendar alongside the confirmed Otago Rally in New Zealand (opening the series in April for the third year) and Rally Terra Sarda in Italy (closing the series in October for the 4th years).

The Algoa Rally 2026 is scheduled for July 9th to 11th.

Oliver de Man, Algoa Rally Club Chairman, said: “This is very good for South African rallying to bring back international competition to our shores. Our local drivers are hungry for the competition and are welcoming the challenge. The TER Series and the South African National Rally Championship will work perfectly in harmony with friendly competition on some of the best roads in South Africa. In addition, visiting teams can also soak in the local flavours and a safari tour to explore the beauty on offer in the surroundings of Gqeberha, formerly Port Elizabeth.”

After the first step in our collaboration in 2025, we are ready to share many common goals between the Algoa Rally organisation and ourselves. This partnership, which started in the best way in 2025, adds South Africa to the list of non-European nations that have been part of our championships and promotional events. After Europe, America, Oceania, and Asia (as a TER Promo Event in Japan 2022), Africa is now officially welcomed into the TER family. Africa has been in our plans, and we are excited to begin this new adventure, which marks a significant step in the expansion of the our Project.”
