Giandomenico Basso leads Transilvania Rally after day 1

Giandomenico Basso – Lorenzo Granai, winners of the 2017 TER - Tour European Rally, returned to action in the opening round of the 2018 season, Transilvania Rally.

The Italian Crew, driving a Skoda Fabia R5 for the first time, had a great start to the event : after setting fastest time in the shakedown, they won three of the opening day's four stages, leaving one fastest time to 2016 JWRC and WRC3 world champion - 2016 TER winner Simone Tempestini, codriven by Sergio Itu on Citroen Ds3 R5, who ended the day 15”2 behind the leaders.

The provisional podium is completed by Dan Girtofan on Skoda Fabia R5, in a great fight with 2017 Romanian Champion Bogdan Marisca Ford Fiesta R5 who followed them by 8”5.

A Pitigoi (Porsche 911 Gt3 Cup) is 5th and leads the TER 2WD Trophy ahead of Florin Tincescu (Fiat Abarth 124).

7th place for Sorin Badea (Ford Fiesta R5) while Alexandru Filip (Renault Clio RS R3T) is 8th.

The 2017 TER 2 Cup winner Joachim Wagemans is 9th overall and 1st in the DMACK TER 2Cup.

The Top Ten is completed by Costel Casuneanu (Skoda Fabia R5).

The leader of TER Production is Filip Pyck (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX).

The TER crews will return to action tomorrow for Leg 2, total route 352,02 km with 10 S.S for a total distance of 91,05 km, beginning with “Valea Fericirii” at 8:58am, which will be the TER Power Stage awarding bonus point to the fastest TER and DMACK TER 2Cup crews.
