Giandomenico Basso wins Round 5 Rallye International du Valais and the 2017 TER – Tour European Rally

The fifth round of the 2017 TER – Tour European Rally saw the victory of Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai with their Hyundai New Generation i20 R5 by BRC Racing Team.


The italian crew made up the time lost in a small off on SS 2, and after the retirement of Olivier Burri on SS 11 inherited the lead which they held on to until the end, securing their final victory in the 2017 TER – Tour European Rally series. Another great recovery, after a first leg with some issues, allowed championship rivals Bernd Casier and Pieter Vyncke on a Ford Fiesta R5 by Team Floral to finish second ahead of Michaël Burri and Andersson Levratti's Ford Fiesta R5.


Just outside the podium, Nicolas Althaus – Alain Ioset were fourth with a Škoda Fabia R5 ahead of the sister car driven by Stefan Göttig – Nathalie Solbach-Schmidt.


Sixth place went to the Peugeot 207 S2000 of Joël Rappaz – Gaëtan Lathion, while Jim van den Heuvel and Jouri Dockx won the TER Production Trophy ending in seventh with their Mitsubishi Evo X.


Also in the Top Ten, Niki Buhler – Gabriele Zanni who took TER 2WD Trophy honours in a Peugeot 208 R2, Ignat Isaev and Milen Iliev's Citroën DS3 R3T and the TER2 Cup winners Joachim Wagemans – François Geerlandt driving a Peugeot 208 R2.
